Baritone Robbert Muuse is an internationally active soloist with a broad repertoire spanning from Renaissance and Baroque music to Romantic and contemporary works. As an oratorio soloist, he has performed many works by J.S. Bach as well as music by composers such as Monteverdi, Händel, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Puccini, as well as 20th-century composers such as Poulenc and Tippett.
In 2016 he performed Carmina Burana by Carl Orff with the piano duo Arthur and Lucas Jussen.
Muuse has worked as a soloist with many renowned conductors and ensembles, including the Netherlands Chamber Choir, Holland Baroque Society, and the Verbier Festival Orchestra. He has sung numerous operatic roles, including the title role in Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, as well as major roles in operas by Mozart, Purcell, Lully, Händel, Janáček, Humperdinck, and Johann Strauss.
Early music forms a core part of his artistic identity. For ten years he was a baroque soloist with the French Ensemble Pierre Robert, and in 2017 he recorded Passion cantatas by Graupner with Ensemble Ex Tempore. Since 2002, he has been a freelance member of the Netherlands Chamber Choir.
Since 1994, Muuse has also been active as a recital singer with pianist Micha van Weers. Their recitals focus strongly on rare and lesser-known art songs, particularly works by Jewish composers suppressed before World War II. Together they have released several CDs, including award-winning recordings on the Challenge Records label featuring songs by Julius Röntgen and Cyril Scott.
Robbert Muuse completed his vocal studies with distinction at the Conservatory of Maastricht and continued his training in Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Salzburg, and the United Kingdom with leading teachers and coaches, forming a solid international foundation for his career.
